ACT Testing Information
American College Testing (ACT) is a standardized test used for college admissions throughout the United States. The purpose of the exam is to measure a high school student’s readiness for college, and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants.
Norwin High School students are recommended to take the ACT in the spring of their junior year and/or fall of their senior year.
About the ACT
Testing Time: 2 hours and 55 minutes. There is an additional/optional 40 minute writing component.
Structure: The full ACT test consists of 4 multiple choice sections in English, Math, Reading
and Science with an optional Writing section.
- English (75 Questions - 45 Minutes)
- Math (60 Questions - 60 Minutes)
- Reading (40 Questions - 35 Minutes)
- Science (40 Questions - 35 Minutes)
- Writing (optional)- (1 Essay - 40 Minutes)
Score Range: Composite 21-36
- Each section listed above is scored on a 1-36 point scale. Your composite score is the average of the four required sections.

- Students who participate will receive a free score analysis that breaks down how they did by section, question type, and content area so they can get a sense for where they might want to do some review prior to the actual exam.
- SAT and ACT Concordance Tables
- The College Board and ACT have collaborated on new concordance tables to help educators and families compare SAT and ACT scores.
- The 2018 tables are now the only official concordance tables between the ACT and the SAT and should be used as the single source of reference when paring scores on the two tests.
