Hello and welcome to Room 222!
My name is Sara Hawley, and I am proud to teach 10th Grade Academic World History and 12th Grade AP/CHS U.S. Government and Politics at Norwin High School. Since joining the Norwin School District in 2019, I have had the privilege of working with incredible students every day, and it continues to be one of the most rewarding parts of my career.
At the heart of my teaching is a simple belief: every student can learn, grow, and improve, regardless of where they are starting. My goal is to meet students where they are, support them in their growth, and help them develop the confidence and skills they need to be successful both inside and outside the classroom.
I strive to create a classroom environment that is collaborative, respectful, welcoming, and accepting. While history and government provide the content we explore together, I hope students leave my courses with much more than academic knowledge. Through our work, students develop important life skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking, self-advocacy, and confidence in their abilities. Students can expect a classroom focused on four core expectations:
- Genuine effort
- Respect for themselves and others
- Active participation
- Open communication
I am a strong believer that effort matters, and I work hard to support students who are willing to engage, ask questions, and persevere through challenges. At the same time, I maintain high expectations for respectful behavior and personal accountability. I value integrity and expect students to complete their work honestly and responsibly.
As a parent and educator, I know that learning is most successful when schools and families work together. Supportive parents and guardians make a tremendous difference in student achievement. I encourage families to help students take ownership of their learning while also providing guidance, encouragement, and accountability along the way. Open communication is important to me, and email is the best way to reach me with questions or concerns.
One of the things I value most about Norwin is our students. They consistently impress me with their talents, creativity, resilience, and determination. We truly have some of the best students anywhere, and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from them while helping them grow.
