Welcome to the History Club!

Important information regarding the upcoming school year coming soon.

The History Club is open to anyone who has an interest in history.  The club has several goals this year that include:

  • Trips to local historical sites and museums
  • Movie Nights
  • Guest Speakers
  • Potential fundraisers that will benefit our local historical societies

The 2019-2020 school year is going to be a great school year.  As a club and we are very excited for what we have planned.  So far we have the following planned:

  • Candle Light Tour at Hanna's Town

At this event, student will have the opportunity to walk the grounds and hear stories from colonial times.  Last time we went, it was wet and raining, However, the students enjoyed themselves.

  • A night in the Burgh! Students will be visiting Market Square, the Santa's from around the world and have the change to ice skate at PPG.
  • Meadowcroft (Date TBD)
  • Heinz History Center

Last year, the History Club visited Dulles Air and Space Museum and the  National Mall.  We were fortunate enough  to be there for Cherry Blossom season which was quite the experience.

We would also like to visit somewhere in June of 2020.

Please check back for updates on upcoming trips, pictures of previous trips and other important information.  If you would like to become a member of the history club please see Mrs. Sturm in room 227 for a membership form and information.

Our History:

Norwin's History Club has been in the works for the past five years.  Since the club began, we have had the opportunity to take a few field trips and provide the students with enrichment outside of the normal classroom environment. In June of 2016, students visited Washington D.C..  While in Washington D.C., the students visited the World War II, Vietnam, Lincoln, Korean War and Jefferson Memorials.  The students also had the opportunity to visit Congress and sit in on a session.  To our delight, the Speaker of the House was there which added to the experience.  During the trip the students also visited the Smithsonian Museums and the Newseum.  During this trip the students also took a dinner cruise down the Potomac River and viewed Washington D.C. at night.

In the Spring of 2017, students visited the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.  During the tour the students had a private tour guide that walked them through the days events and explained in detail the heroic acts of the men and women on board the Flight on September 11th.

In June of 2017, students in History Club traveled to New York City.  While in the city the students went to see a New York Yankees Baseball game, visited the Tear Drop Memorial, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the 9/11 Museum, the World One Observatory, Wall Street and Alexander Hamilton's grave.  The students also took a dinner cruise down the Hudson River and viewed the New York City skyline at night.  To finish off the trip, the students did a walking "Hamilton Tour" in Harlem where they got to listen to the History that surrounds Hamilton as well as the many other influential people that were around him.
