NHS Celebrates National Special Olympics Recognition

On Friday, we celebrated the fact that the Norwin High School was named a 2020 National Banner Unified Champion School by the Special Olympics!
The celebration was part of Friday‚Äôs pep rally to commemorate Homecoming Week. NHS was one of just 10 schools in Pennsylvania to receive the recognition.
Sophomore Eli Passarelli (Unified Bocce and Unified Track and Field) and senior Michelle Bojalad (Unified Track and Field) were speakers at the event.
We are incredibly proud of the fact that we have had a Unified Track and Field Team since 2016, along with a Unified Bocce team we added in 2019. Additionally, our Peer Buddy Mentor Club (PBMC) has been active since 2013.
Members of Unified Sports and PBMC host many inclusive events and fundraisers throughout each year, including raising thousands of dollars for SOPA by doing the Pittsburgh Polar Plunge, hosting the Westmoreland County Special Olympics Track and Field annual event from 2017 through 2019, and conducting various inclusive, service projects throughout the community.
Congratulations to our student-athletes and for all who have made this outstanding programming possible here in Norwin!
