AP Literature & Composition

AP Literature & Composition - 12th grade year-long courses with two opportunities to earn college credit: Seton Hill College in High School Credit or national AP credit with a score of 3 or higher on national May exam.

A variety of time periods, cultures, and styles are covered in this literature immersive class. Focus on skills for detailed analysis of both prose and poetry with artistic insight and technical intelligence is featured. Composition skills are honed through practice and modeling. Standard multiple-choice and timed writing prompts issued by the College Board are used throughout the year for assessment. However, literary discussions and classroom activities allow daily interactive assessment opportunities. Throughout the year students present creative projects to encourage independent thought and passionately impart ideas to fellow students with a clear emphasis on relevance to our shared human experience and modern connections in our global society. In this class, literature is appreciated as timeless art that resonates and binds us together. Universal themes and stylistic strategies are studied, while humanity is at the core of this class.
