Local Scholarship Applications

 

Applications for these scholarships are available by clicking on the file under each scholarshipScholarships are listed alphabetically by the scholarship name. If the scholarship contains a person's name, it is alphabetized by the last name. 

 

All completed applications must be returned to the High School Guidance Office by the specified due date to be submitted to the granting organization for review. The guidance office will provide copies of transcripts where required to prove GPA/QPA and class rank

 

Local Scholarship were released on February 17, 2023 - most applications will be due on March 17, 2023. Please check each application for the appropriate deadline.

 

Tyler J. Ball Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

  • A student demonstrates an active life of service to school and community
  • A student who demonstrates leadership characteristics
  • A student who gives his/her best effort at all times
  • Must complete an essay on the provided topic

Dorothy and Richard Barr Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Senior in Westmoreland County
  • Must attend one of the approved schools within Westmoreland County - Norwin is one of these schools
  • Must submit two reference letters
  • Must have a 3.5 GPA

Hugh and Marion Campbell Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Will be continuing their education as an automotive technician, preferably in a program of studies not
    sponsored by an automobile manufacturer;
  • Best exemplifies the following character traits established by the Advisory Committee: outstanding attendance, community service and diligence in all aspects of life

#1 Cochran Toyota Scholarship

Criteria:

  • A student who intends to further their education in one of the following career paths: Automotive Technical School, Business or Finance field (accounting, finance, business administration and management, economics), attend a Pennsylvania college or university
  • A student who has outstanding attendance
  • A student who is involved with their community

Dansak Family Scholarship
Criteria:
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Demonstrate qualities of leadership
  • Demonstrate qualities of academic achievement

James L. Dudley Scholarship

Criteria: 

  • Dedicated student with a grade point average of 82% or higher (3.0 QPA)
  • Student with school, extracurricular, and/or community activities
  • Student demonstrating leadership and service
  • Student must be attending a postsecondary institution in pursuit of a bachelor's or associate's degree

Amount: Two awards - $2,000 each

George "Herk" Eastland Memorial Scholarship Fund

Criteria:

  • Attend Norwin High School as a graduating senior.
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3.
  • Plan to attend an accredited vocational or technical trade school OR 2-or 4-year college or university.
  • Preference will be given to first-generation college students.

Brian A. Ellwood Scholarship

Criteria:

  • A student who currently lives in a single parent household, or is orphaned by the death of both of their parents
  • A student who will be enrolled full-time in an accredited four-year undergraduate program after graduation
  • A student that displays leadership characteristics in day-to-day engagements with peers
  • A student who demonstrates engagement in community initiative and evidence of positive impact on the lives of others
  • The student’s responses to the application questions

Jill E. Fallone Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

  • An imaginative, spirited, and highly committed student with a grade-percent average of 85% or higher.
  • An individual with a passionate love for music, dance, musical theater, and musical education.
  • A student who has demonstrated their understanding of how the arts bring us together, connect us, and stir creativity.
  • A student who can articulate the power of and need for music education.
  • A student who is seeking to “create” in the performing arts.

Criteria: Must be a female pursuing a career in Physical Education, Health, or Nursing

Brett M. Frischolz Scholarship

Criteria:
  • Dedicated student with a grade point average of 82% or higher (3.0 QPA)
  • Student with extracurricular and/or community activities
  • Student demonstrating leadership
  • Student must be attending a post-secondary institution in pursuit of a bachelor's or associate degree
  • Student is required to provide a letter of recommendation and an essay
Amount: Three awards - $2,500 each

Vincent C. Gray Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: 

  • QPA of 2.7 or higher
  • Must compete in an interscholastic sport at Norwin
  • Attendance
  • Involvement in extracurricular activities
  • Finalists will participate in personal interview before the selection committee
  • Two teacher recommendations

Amount: $10,000 over 4 years

Criteria: 

  • QPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Continuing education in drafting, engineering, or Graphic Arts at a college or technical/trade school

LJ Hancock Music Fund

Criteria:

  • Pursue a degree or studies in music or dance.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Plan to attend a 4-year college or university and be entering the junior or senior year.
  • Be an alumnus of the Norwin High School Band.

Criteria:

  • Senior at Norwin High School pursuing post-secondary education

  • Must be participant in inter-scholastic programs of football or women's basketball at Norwin School District Major in teaching profession, secondary education, social studies or related disciplines

Shirley Lewis McCune Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must be enrolled in business or accounting

The paper application below must be printed, completed, and returned to the guidance office for consideration, and it is for Norwin students only while the electronic version above is open to all Westmoreland County students. 

Jay Walter Miles Scholarship

 

Criteria: Must have strong math and science skills and have plans to attend Cornell or the University of Pittsburgh

Amount: $500

Naponick Family Scholarship

Criteria:

  • "Hustlers", student athletes who perform above their expected level of ability
  • Explanation why applicant wishes to be considered for scholarship
  • Awardees shall possess qualities of leadership and academic achievement
  • Participant in interscholastic programs at Norwin
  • Demonstrate financial need and/or come from an immigrant background

Criteria:

  • Minimum 4 year participation in N.B.A.
  • 2.5 QPA or higher

David J. Nelson Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Strong, dedicated and motivated student with grade-percent average of 85% or higher
  • Individual with general love of athletics and desire to do his/her best while emanating good sportsmanship and character
  • Student who has shown commitment in music, art or community
  • One who shows genuine acceptance and tolerance of peers, regardless of their interests or background

Amount: Two awards - $5,000

Criteria:

  • Graduating Senior of Norwin High School
  • Active in school and community service

Norwin Art League Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must be planning to attend a postsecondary institution and major in visual art, graphic arts, or an instructor of the arts.
  • Provide photos of at least four samples of artwork or graphic arts designs completed in the past two years
  • GPA of 75% or QPA of 2.5

Norwin Chamber of Commerce Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Essay 500 words
  • Two letters recommendation
  • Applicant should exhibit traits of service, leadership, respect, integrity and compassion

Criteria:

Norwin Principals Association Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must be attending a four-year college and plans career in education

  • Must attend Norwin High School

Pastarini Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Student should excel and plan to major in fields listed in order: 
    • Vocal music
    • Music education
    • History (not social studies)
    • Education
  • Leadership qualities
  • Academic attainment should reflect ability
  • Participate in a positive manner in school and community extracurricular activities
  • Write a letter of intent why the applicant should be considered as candidate

Nathan A. Pescatore Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must plan to attend Westmoreland County Community College
  • Preference will be given to students who pursue a course of study within the ‘Technology, Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Science’ curriculum.

  • Include a copy of your most recent transcript.

Criteria:

Criteria:

Excel and plan to major in the fields listed in order:
  • Piano performance

  • Most outstanding choral student

Michael T. Sweeney Jr. RAK Scholarship

Criteria: 

  • QPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Must be enrolled in technology education classes (particularly Robotics and Manufacturing Tech students)
  • Student must continue with post-secondary education in the technology field
  • 500 word essay
  • Community service
  • Completion of a project related to technology education (please include photo)
  • Evidence the student is self-motivated and plans to challenge himself/herself

  • Class rank must be in top one-third of the class

Westmoreland Walks Pink Ribbon Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Graduating Senior in Westmoreland County
  • Life and/or family has been impacted by breast cancer
  • Provide information on extracurricular activities, community/volunteer work, charity involvement, fundraising/activities involving breast cancer
