About Mr. Lloyd

  • Education History:  I began my post-secondary schooling at Juniata College where I attended for two years; I then transferred to the University of Pittsburgh where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.  I later returned to Pitt to attend the school of education where I earned my Pennsylvania secondary teaching certification, then later a master of science in education.

Since the completion of my MEd I have continued my education by attending several summer workshops sponsored by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and the Governors School for Education.

Experience:  I began teaching at Norwin in 1994, which was the first year that freshmen had attended Norwin High school.  I taught my first Honors Biology class that year as well as academic biology and physical science.  Since then I have taught all levels of freshman and sophomore biology and freshman physical science classes.  For the past many years I have exclusively taught honors biology.

In addition to my teaching duties, I serve as the freshman class adviser.  I have been in this position since 1995.  The freshman class elects officers, has an Anchor hoagie fundraiser, participates in homecoming by sponsoring a dunk tank, and hosts several after school outings to provide many opportunities for freshmen to get involved at Norwin.

Finally, I serve as the chairperson for the science department, a position I have held since 2007.  As a department we are committed to remain current on issues of science and provide the students of Norwin with a solid science education.

Interests:  I am an avid boater and water-skier.  My favorite out of school activity is bare-footing, but I also enjoy slalom skiing, roaming and surfing as well.  When I am not on the water I like to be under it, as I have been a SCUBA diver since 1984 and a diving instructor since 1986.  Currently I teach diving classes independently through Randy's dive shop, a two credit course at UPJ, a community and student class at Norwin High School in the fall and spring, I work with SCUBA training of several fire departments and often engage in scientific diving projects when school is not in session.  My focus in SCUBA for the past several years has been the STEM SCUBA Camps which run in June at Norwin High School.  I am also a huge Pitt fan, Pens fan, and I serve as a PIAA official for high school wrestling while I just enjoy watching collegiate wrestling.
