About the Teacher:
My name is Ms. Baker. I am an Autistic Support/Learning Support Teacher at the High School. Specifically, I teach Social Studies and Science to our Life Skills students. I am also one of the Case Managers for Learning and Autistic Support students who are primarily in general education classes.
I grew up locally, graduating from Penn-Trafford High School. After High School, I attended Seton Hill University where I received both my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Master's Degree in Special Education (certified N-12) as well as my certifications in Elementary Education (K-6) and Middle School Language Arts. I am also licensed through the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine as a Behavioral Specialist. Prior to joining the team at Norwin, I spent 8 years teaching Middle School in a local Partial Hospitalization Program and also taught Autistic Support K-2 in Lee County Florida. Prior to that I spent many years serving as a substitute, long term substitute and ESY Teacher in other local districts. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy growing a variety of orchids, spending time with my family and traveling when I get the opportunity.
In Our Classroom:
In our Classroom I utilize the N2Y curriculum as do the other teachers that teach our Life Skills students. I utilize the curriculum along with other supplemented activities to help students learn about a variety of concepts in both Social Studies and Science. Students are also taught study skills and strategies for reading, finding answers in text and identifying important information as we're reading. Fridays are reserved for playing a game to practice important social and communication skills, while some of our classmates attend CBI trips.
If you have any questions or need to communicate with me, please feel free to reach out to me either by phone or email. I am looking forward to a great year!
